Description

ABEM Terraloc Pro 2 is a standalone system and comes with built-in computer, data storage, measurement channels and user interface. Measurements are conducted via a user friendly graphical interface. The system is enclosed in a rugged and robust aluminum casing meeting IEC IP66 classifications, allowing measurements to be made in all situations and environments.

Three different configurations of ABEM Terraloc Pro 2 are available, having 12, 24 and 48 channels. If more channels are needed, several units can be interlinked. ABEM Terraloc Pro 2 can be paired with almost any seismic accessory allowing fully customized solutions to meet every need.

Seismic solutions are typically used in civil engineering and infrastructure work to determine the properties of the subsurface of the earth, including depth to bedrock, bedrock quality, soil stability studies, finding fractures and weak zones, and geological mapping. The ABEM Terraloc Pro 2 can be configured for all of these applications, and more.

Typically, the seismograph is triggered by ground vibrations created by a controlled energy source. By recording the time it takes for the seismic waves to reach geophones connected to the seismograph, it is possible to estimate the depth and properties of subsurface features.

The ABEM Terraloc Pro 2 focuses on creating an enhanced user experience. The process to setup measurements has been greatly improved for field crews by offering a wizard mode, keeping the number of steps and settings needed to be configured to a bare minimum.

A Li-ion power supply solution ensures stable operation even if the external batteries are of poor quality. The two internal batteries are hot-swappable providing the opportunity for continuous, uninterrupted power during long survey sessions.

A wide range of high quality cables for land, marine and borehole measurements together with geophones suitable for any type of seismic method are available. Different types of trigger solutions and energy sources can be supplied.

The ABEM Terraloc Pro 2 system has a builtin quad-core computer that runs a stable Linux operating system, and is equipped with connectivity including GPS, WiFi, Ethernet and USB. For diagnostic purposes, service or upgrades the ABEM support team can remotely connect to the instrument, regardless of location.

What are seismic methods?

Seismic methods record the movement of vibrations through the ground with their speed and path telling us something about the structure, strength and/or stability of the subsurface.

All seismic systems require three components: a source (either user-generated or naturally occurring vibrations), sensors and cabling to detect the seismic waves as they move through the subsurface (geophones on land, hydrophones in water) and an instrument (seismograph) to record that motion for later analysis.

When would I use seismic methods?

When you have a need for a non-destructive investigation technique for subsurface conditions, seismics can be a good alternative to provide a more comprehensive picture compared to traditional intrusive methods, such as digging and drilling.

Typical application areas

  • Bedrock detection and topography
  • Mechanical parameters (rock strength, soil stability, rippability etc.)
  • Earthquake resilience studies
  • Fractures and fault zones
  • Cavities
  • Lithology or bedrock type
  • Mineral and oil prospection

A new trusted ABEM seismic system

The Terraloc Pro 2 is the latest in a long line of seismic instruments from ABEM with a design that simplifies the process of collecting good quality data.

The ABEM Terraloc Pro 2 offers the flexibility to undertake reflection, refraction, surface wave and borehole surveys with a scaleable hardware design to perfectly meet your needs.

How you choose to collect that high quality data is up to you – the system can: use single and multi-component geophones, borehole accessories and hydrophones; operate with a range of sources from a simple hammer, to a vibration rig to explosives; record data appropriate for reflection, refraction or surface wave studies. And this broad capability is delivered in a rugged, go-anywhere one-box solution.

Available in 12, 24 or 48 channel versions, these instruments can be upgraded to grow with your changing requirements. If you have two or more instruments, they can operate independently or be interconnected to further increase channel numbers when big projects come up. The system can operate with any type of seismic accessory to work in the widest range of applications.

Remote connectivity

Operate, upgrade, download or test anywhere, at any time

Remote connectivity can allow the ABEM support team to assist with software upgrades, give support or troubleshoot if necessary. This unique feature ensures that the system is always up to date, operating correctly, with the risk of downtime kept to an absolute minimum.

The built-in field computer in the ABEM Terraloc Pro 2 offers robust computing power, an easy to use graphical user interface and connectivity such as USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi. The internal GPS supports GLONASS, which improves positioning accuracy.

Advantages:

  • Rugged and robust – measure anywhere at any time
  • Remote connectivity allows assistance onsite
  • Scaleable and easy to upgrade
  • Optimized for productivity, minimizing field time
  • Outstanding quality of data even in the harshest conditions
  • GPS with GLONASS for improved accuracy

Designed with a focus on data quality

Independent receiver circuits on every channel provide market leading data quality.

Outstanding dynamic range from high specification digitizers with selectable voltage ranges ensures the ABEM Terraloc Pro 2 is able to record everything from ‘a whisper to an explosion’. Isolated receiver circuits significantly reduce noise and on-board filtering and analysis tools provide efficient in-field quality assurance so there are no surprises upon returning to the office.

   Accessories ..

ABEM Power Adapter

Robust and stable power in the field

This powerful AC-DC adapter allows operators to run their ABEM instruments from an existing power network or a small ‘suitcase’-style generator. These generators weigh less than a typical high-capacity lead-acid battery, providing an option for prolonged power even in locations where recharging of batteries may be problematic. The ABEM Power Adapter is perfect for demanding field campaigns; it is fully waterproof and capable of providing a clean and stable 12V DC supply in excess of 30A from a 110V/230V AC (50 or 60 Hz) source. It would also suit monitoring and other unattended applications where there would be limited opportunities for changing over batteries.

In addition to the main power output, a waterproof auxiliary connector offers both 5V 2A and 12V 1A outputs, for custom accessories, plus an “operation OK” signal, useful for remote applications.

ABEM Wire-free trigger

Wire-free triggering for Terraloc products

The Seismic Radio Trigger provides an easy, cost-effective solution for wireless triggering of the Terraloc family of products, being compatible with Terraloc Mk 8 to Terraloc Pro 2 instruments. It can trigger manually on a single button press or communicate a trigger signal from another device. The system operates on license-free Lo-Ra frequencies and should be compatible with almost any source and trigger system.

   WEBINARS ..

An introduction to MASW (multichannel analysis of surface waves) for ground investigation

This short webinar will introduce MASW as an efficient tool for site assessment to determine ground stability, depth to bedrock and bedrock quality, among other things. The presentation will be aimed at those who are new to the method and will cover the basic principles of MASW, considerations for survey design, general processing workflow, and what the final results can tell us about the subsurface, illustrated by a small number of cases. The webinar will be hosted by Harry Higgs, one of Guideline Geo’s Application Engineers.
